Every week at the beginning of the Thursday demonstration we are the many fatalities of this government policy. And then we have a short summary for what we stand every week:

Welcome! Since two and a half years we are EVERY Thursday here at the Human Rights Square for a more humane, more honest, more responsible, solution-oriented government policy! Great that you are here! I try to hold my speech in English but because I am an official pee brain, please forgive the following thousand mistakes!

Like every Thursday I want to start together with commemorating the many fatalities of this government policy: Because we meet every week here at the Marcus Omofuma Memorial, we start with the Victims of POLICE VIOLENCE especially Racist Violence and with FEMIZIDE and Victims of homophobic, transphobic or other queerphobic violence. EVERY death is one too many!

We commemorate all VICTIMS OF WAR, victims of totalitarian regimes, all refugees who drown or die of thirst, starve or freeze to death. All those who suffer in inhumane conditions in refugee concentration camps or illegal prisons at the EU borders and die there or fall victim to racist attacks. We commemorate all PUSHBACK victims and all who are deported to their deaths. EVERY death is one too many!

And we commemorate all Victims of the far too business-friendly health policy, all who are driven into depression or burn-out by the exploitative social system or who cannot be treated well enough due to austerity measures. We also commemorate all suicides because of fascist daily structures, obscure noise regulations and above all because of populist stir up of hatred. EVERY death is one too many!

We commemorate all the victims of road traffic regulations in which only the law of the strongest applies, of all those who have been suffocating every year because of AIR POLLUTION, and of all those who are suffering now and even more so in the coming decades and centuries from the consequences of CLIMATE WARMING, like overheating, drought, storms, floods and more pandemics. EVERY death is one too many!

Thanks! You know: We care for each other! THANK YOU to everyone who continues to pay attention to SAFETY DISTANCE or MASKS! If you want FFP2 masks, hand disinfection or corona tests, you are very welcome to have some from us.

Ok, now comes the part that’s even harder for me in English, because I don’t know the usual English rhymes. And simply translating the German ones doesn’t work. So you are welcome to shout out. Some may ask why we still do Thursday protests. There aren’t any right wing – or as we say in Austria blue ones anymore in government. To which we answer: It’s about content, not colors. Actions count! And: BABY BLUE IS NO BETTER! And anyone who thinks everything has been ok since Kurz left, I ask you: HAMMA HUMAN RIGHTS? NE HAMMA NED! HAMMA CLIMATE PROTECTION? NE HAMMA NED! (that’s an Austrian word play about the cancler.)

Beside the many special topics that we had at some Thursday demonstrations over the years, there are always a few fixed topics every Thursday. Like we run EVERY Thursday protest only with cargo bikes for climate protection. WHAT DO WE WANT? CLIMATE JUSTICE! WHEN DO WE WANT IT? NOW! And because real climate protection is only possible with a consistent traffic change: Whose street? HIGH WAY? NO WAY! More roads means more traffic. Stop soil sealing! Traffic turnaround here! LOBAU REMAINS! SAVE HIRSCHSTETTEN!)

And we stand at EVERY Thursday for safe escape routes, a humanitarian right to stay and inclusion FOR ALL REFUGEES INDEPENDENT OF ORIGIN, SKIN COLOR, RELIGION ETC! The human rights are for everyone the same. SAY IT LOUD AND SAY IT CLEAR: ALL REFUGEES ARE WELCOME HERE! And even if we of course are in solidarity with all people in Ukraine and also all other war zones, we want NO NATIONALISM or HATE SPEECH here. Instead, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, we are demanding a consistent embargo from Russia – including gas! Human lives are more important than jobs or wealth! To co-finance this war through our even now increasing energy consumption and then to use it as an excuse for rearmament is cynical and mendacious. EU FUNDES, PUTIN BOMBES! And: EU FUNDES, ERDOGAN BOMBES! Do you know any rhyme to MORE ARMOR, MORE WEAPONS – WILL NOT MAKE PEACE!?

We are against corruption and for transparency and protection of whistleblowers. People must not be punished for exposing the Ibiza scandal or war crimes. Therefore FREE FREE FREE ASSANGE!

Not only in May but the whole year every Thursday we stand for feminism. We were commemorating femizides in the very beginning. But we’re also demanding politics to do something against it: ALERTA ALERTA! QUEER FEMINISTA! HOWEVER I DRESS WHEREVER I GO YES MEANS YES AND NO MEANS NO! This is international: JIN JIYAN AZADI! (Women – Life – Freedom)

Not only in June but the whole year every Thursday we are QUEER! AS YOU CAN SEE! Do you know any queer rhyme?

And not only in July but every Thursday we are against ableism. And because we are as inclusive as possible, please make sure that everyone really feels comfortable here and that everyone is RESPECTIVE & CONSIDERATE!

Feel free to eat our saved food and drink our freegan drinks! This is ice coffee, ice tee, lemonade. And if you ask for it, we have freegan fruit wine fermented by myself out of saved oranges. And at the end my favourite shouting against wasting food, for transparency and against greenwashing we need to open all garbage rooms, because: WHO’S TRASH? What is the new Thursday protest (re:do!)?
Redonnerstag is a weekly protest for the people and ideas that are not represented by current right wing politics in Austria.

Why did it start?
The previous Thursday protests stopped after the „blue“ right wing party resigned,
but since 2017, experts have been saying there is no difference anymore between that party and the current „turquoise“ one,
so we restarted the protests.

Why every week?
In the tradition of the previous Thursday protests, continuity is important to keep things in our minds,
and people know they can find us every Thursday at 6pm at the Platz der Menschenrechte in Vienna.

What happens on the reDo?
We aim to give a voice to marginalized people and a stage to positive projects at the open mic.
We show solutions like safe and climate-friendly protesting
and anticonsumerism alternatives like saving food.

Why do you protest so many causes in one go?
You cannot separate climate protection from gender and economic equality or refugee rights.
Diversity enriches us all.

How long will you protest for?
reDonnerstag will be at the Platz der Menschenrechte in Vienna every Thursday at 6pm until the government of Austria stops acting right wing.
